The Checklist - Far Cry 4

December 03, 2017 by Lachlan Marnoch in The Checklist, Reviews, Non-Fiction

Why it's on the list: I heard it was a pretty good game (at the recommendation of Giant Bomb, as usual) and it seemed right up my alley - the open world shooter thing is pretty cool.

How I played it:  Xbox One, on disc - I bought it pre-owned from EB Games.

When I played it: From November 2016 through to about the same time 2017.

How far I got:

  • Killed Sabal
  • Killed Pagan Minh
  • Finished the game
  • Beat all the outposts
  • 865/1000 Achievement Points

What I thought:

I really like it, but it got a bit repetitive. I stopped and started it a couple of times before finally finishing it, but I found each time I went back I had a great time with the game once again. I might go back and clear up a couple more achievements at some point.

The guns are satisfying, and so are the stealth kills - even if the stealth itself is frequently frustrating. Getting around the world is fun, whether it's by wingsuit, car, or just sprinting from place to place. There are these awesome miniature helicopter things that you can fly around in and shoot your sidearm from. And the game lets you have a grenade launcher as a sidearm, so that's pretty dope.

The story is interesting, even if the ending turned out a little unsatisfying for me.

Anyway, good game, would recommend.
